Dr Vijay Raj provides inpatient psychiatric care at Sherbourne Clinic at Shepparton Private Hospital in Shepparton, Victoria. In the inpatient setting he looks after adults with acute mental illnesses. It is important that patients are not at high risk of harm to themselves or others, can provide informed consent and can actively participate in their care. Dr Raj takes a developmental view in coming to understand how his patients have become afflicted with their mental health issues. He then works with them to deliver treatment that is crafted to suit their unique needs. This can range from recommendations regarding educational, occupational and lifestyle changes to specific psychological therapies. He can also avail them of a whole armament of medications if this is what is needed to improve their outcomes. Additionally, he can provide brain stimulation treatments such as Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for those in need.
